Blackberries

The last blackberry flower falling apart and some green unripe blackberries taken earlier this summer.

 

Camera was a Nex 5. Filter was a La La U by UVIRoptics. Lens was an adapted Nikon AF-S 35mm DX ƒ/1.8 at ƒ8 or so. 2 second exposure Iso 200. Edit was with photo ninja.

Those were green, unripe berries? Yet they are very UV-absorbing. The UV-absorbing anthocyanin pigment which gives the ripe berries their dark color must be underlying the green surface? I am wondering how that all works. Must go read up. :grin:

 

Interesting also that the blackberry surface also produces UV specular reflections.

Andrea, Rubus species typically have a thin waxy cuticula on their (false) fruits. Thus they are prone to specular reflections also in visible light.
