Recommended Posts

This its the discarded bone (internal shell) of the Common Cuttlefish: (Sepia officinalis) found on a beach at the weekend. Not sure if there is any biological significance in the fluorescence, but quite pretty!

Technical details: UVF: Nikon D850 with 105mm micro Nikkor, 10 seconds @f/22. Light painted with Convoy S2+ UV torch

Adrian, another fascinating topic. (This is why I love UVP!!)

I had to go read up about Cuttlefish. And I must say, a Cuttlefish is quite an interesting creature. It has blue-green blood, 3 hearts, sleep cycles and 12-14 color patterns which are used for communication as well as camouflage. The cuttlebone is made of aragonite.

Cuttlefish also have one of the largest brain-to-body size ratios of all invertebrates. So they are thought to be amongst the most intelligent of the invertebrates.
