Can't set profile picture

I'm trying to set a profile picture but it keeps telling me: Failed to set a new photo

It's just a 720x720 jpeg of 230KB. Hosting it elsewhere doesn't work either: Could not save the URL image specified

What am I missing?

I don't know, but I've never been able to set one either! Same error.

Just for the record:

 

Click on your Name in the upper right corner.

Select My Profile from the drop-down menu.

When your Profile appears, click Edit My Profile on upper right.

 

When the Profile Editor appears, click Photo [Change your photo].

When the Photo Editor appears, click Browse to search your laptop for the desired photo.

Select the desired photo and click Open on the lower right.

 

After the photo uploads, you can adjust it in the crop box on the left.

Even if you do not want/need to adjust the photo within the crop box,

------>>>>> CLICK ADJUST CROP then OK.

 

Then click Done to exit the Photo Editor.

Finally, click Save Changes at the bottom of the Profile Editor.

 

When you return to a posting page, refresh your browser

a couple of times to see your photo appear at the left.

I reset the permissions for modification of profile. That seemed to clear things up.

Nisei, try a REALLY small photo. I used 250x383 px. I got the same error when I used a larger one.

Yes, that was indeed the problem for some folks in addition to the incorrectly set flag I repaired.

 

I just wrote to John to say --> try a resized photo.

 

The personal photo limits are 200 px x 200 px with a filesize of 100 KB or less. However, if you get the filesize under 100 KB, then it seems the personal photo uploader ignores the pixel height/width up to a point. I managed to upload an avatar of 400x300 because the file size was low. But it looked a bit smushed because the uploader resizing was a bit crude. Best to do your own resizing to around 200x200.
