bvf
Decided to follow forum advice and get some UV eye protection. But the glasses I bought from ebay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223440438510 - now shown as out of stock) are pretty useless - little or no absorption until you get to about 320nm. Any recommendations as to what I should get? Link to comment
dabateman
Bernard,You need to buy the Amber Uvex glasses.See here:https://www.ultravioletphotography.com/content/index.php/topic/2614-uv-eyewear-protection-upgrade/page__p__19704__hl__amber__fromsearch__1#entry19704 Don't buy the Orange ones. I bought the Orange ones first, then Cadmium said they leak. I tested mine and they leak at 380nn. Not sure why.The Amber Uvex don't leak at all below 400nm.https://www.fullsource.com/uvex-s0290x/ Link to comment
Cadmium
The amber ones are the ones I use. I test compared the orange and amber versions, and found that the amber version actually has the best UV protection, the orange leaks a very small amount of UV in/around the ~370nm~ range. They are inexpensive enough so get both and compare for yourself.I like these also because they go on easy over my glasses.I sent my Orange ones to John to test and keep, but have not heard back about those. bvf
Thanks, gentlemen. I've ordered an amber one. I couldn't find a UK/EU supplier, so had to order from the US. Although David's link showed a price of $6, there was no mention of shipping outside of the US. Ebay offered me a US supplier charging $13 for the glasses - plus $25 for shipping! Amazon had a more reasonable offer - $15.50 inc. shipping: my eyes are just about worth that. Link to comment
