nfoto
Rørslett, B. 2013. Linum bienne Mill. (Linaceae). Pale Flax. Flowers photographed in visible and ultraviolet light. http://www.ultravioletphotography.com/content/index.php?/topic/348-linum-bienne-pale-flax/ Linum bienne Mill.Syn. Linum angustifolium Huds. NO: Toårig linEN: Pale Flax This is a relative to the Common Flax (L. usitatissimum) and is native to Europe, with its main distribution in the southern regions. It is normally biennial (hence its species name) and flowers with pale blue flowers in late spring or early summer. Plants collected and photographed at Olonne-sur-Mer, France 31 May 2011. Image reference: LINU_BIE_I1105313571_UV.jpgUltraviolet light: Nikon D40X, UV-Nikkor 105 mm f/4.5 lens, Baader U2" (Venus) filter, SB-140 flash. L. bienne appears almost unaltered from the visible impression when the flower is seen in UV light. Only the UV-dark pollen discloses the spectral range has changed. I cannot recall any other flower documented so far behaving in this manner, so it must be pretty unusual. [Published 12 June 2013] Link to comment
