The Four Seasons of UV

I was just ramble-thinking about shooting UV floral signatures outdoor in the sunshine.

375 - 400 nm = easy UV shooting. Call it Summer because lots of UV light. Lovely photos result. In this range UV can often be forced through ordinary older gear.

350 - 375 nm = less available UV in this range, but enough. Spring-like? UV-capable gear needed for best results. The need for UV-flash begins to be important.

325 - 350 nm = UV is getting scarce here in the Autumn range, harder to shoot but not impossible. Dedicated gear might be needed for good results? UV-flash almost mandatory to shorten exposures.

300 - 325 nm = the hard, cold Winter of reflected UV photography. Dedicated gear is a must. As well as all the artificial UV illumination you might have on hand.

The alert reader will note that my seasons are out of order,

but we've always known that our UV world was a strange one.
