JMC
We have a Clematis in the garden, and I'd like some advice on identifying it please. Here is one of the flowers; The flower is about 6-8 inches across. It's not a wild flower - I think it is one my wife planted a couple of years back but we no longer have the name tag. Based on appearance it may be a Lincoln Star, but would like it confirming. I have a UV shot of it from today, but want to make sure I know what it is first before posting. Link to comment
Andrea B.
I fear that identifying Clematis cultivars is only possible by someone who is a specialist in breeding and growing Clematis. There is a UK group who might be able to help you: http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/Looking there I see one which might be yours: http://www.clematis....l.cfm?dbkey=499It's the same as you mentioned - Lincoln Star. JMC
Cool, thanks Andrea, will try and follow up with the folks in Hull then. Link to comment
Andrea B.
Forgot to mention.... It's not necessary to have a 100% ID in the case of such a cultivar. You can make an entry in the Cultivars section using either of the two titles:Clematis sp. [Clematis]Clematis cf. 'Lincoln Star' [Clematis]The header would contain either:Clematis L. sp. (Ranunculaceae) ClematisClematis L. cf. 'Lincoln Star' (Ranunculaceae) ClematisThe second designation in each case directs the viewer to compare the posted flower with examples of Lincoln Star found elsewhere. YOu could add a link to such an example in your Comment section or in the Reference section. Looking forward to seeing this one in UV. There is such nice texture in Clematis petals. Link to comment
