Transmission of a plastic FLD Filter

Recommended Posts

Interesting spectrum. I have 3 at 52mm and one at 46mm. All mine are digital brand. The 46mm is significantly lighter than the 52mm ones. I will try to take a picture of mine tomorrow. I cut one of the 52mm to 20mm, to fit in a fisheye lens. So I know for sure they are plastic. Bad things happen when ever I cut glass.

Yes, thus the topic name. David's are made of plastic. Mine is made of glass.

Anyone have a shot using one yet?

David: "It pushes all green foliage into white and all other colors stay about normal."

David, do you have an example you can post?

It is night here, all I have are a couple house plants, and they are not looking white with that filter.

Of course, mine is the glass version... perhaps not comparable to the plastic version David has experienced.

I will try outside tomorrow.

The only foliage close by is a lawn.

My FLD filter only makes the green foliage more pale and less saturated:

I just got my EM1 fixed. The back dial stoped working and now I am having an odd time with WB settings so have not been able to get a good one with the FLD. Not sure why. It seems to be the filter I am having a hard time with. But using a dialed in setting. I am seeing that brightly IR reflective objects go white and not highly reflecting hold closer to their colors. I will have to see if this holds true when my trees get leafs. I don't have much to work with. But the Scuba test looked much better and I will post my images there.

Was finally able to get a shot out of EM1 post fix. Here is an image with Fld filter:

I need more bright reflecting green leaves. That seem to be the best subject for the fld filter.

These were done with D7000 UV/IR, and AF Nikkor 35-105mm

I have not tried the Scuba Blue yet, next to do...

What did you do differently? Your second test is getting closer to what I see. I wonder if the position of the sun matters?
