it is an old concrete block - i am not sure what purpose but could have been septic when the fort was here... exposed with the erosion. i actually didn't see it in this image.

 

you can see it in the 3rd image as well.

Some of the storm drain pipes were embedded in concrete blocks to protect the pipes from rocks and waves.

I went to my last years of HS in Cape Elizabeth. I lived about a mile from Fort Williams and often enjoyed reading a book while nestled in a cleft in the cliffs shown in photo one. The waves would be hitting the rocks just below me, enough sunlight would reach me to warm me, but the rest of the world was far away. (sigh)

Beautiful images and location. It reminds me a bit of a place in Tasmania called the 'Edge of the World' which is on the north west coast. If you traveled by sea from there, directly to the west, the first land you'd hit is South America. It's very quaint, there is a little village, with one shop, and in there they have a little inflatable globe hanging from the ceiling. The proprietor of the shop explains to everyone going into the shop about looking west and shows you it on the globe. Bless.
