Boating with Tiffen #12

Recommended Posts

I climbed a lighthouse! Bobby (family friend) took me, my grandma, and his best friend Lazro out on the boat to Thacher Island off the coast of Rockport. Thacher has not one but TWO lighthouses, for extra visibility. One of them was closed (and the parapet was closed also, so I couldn’t go out on the ledge) but I did manage to get up to the top of the other. Bobby did too, which is something at age 71. My grandma and Lazro waited for us in the boat because it was cool down on the water, and at 89, grandma wasn't up to the lighthouse.

The lighthouse has surprisingly little room up top — it’s essentially just a tiny ledge and then the big rotating part in the middle, which was off during the day, of course. It was blazingly hot up there from greenhouse effect.

Anyway I took photos of the trip using the Tiffen #12 filter. Processing and equipment were identical to what was used in the helicopter thread, so I will just link that here.

The images are in chronological order. I did not closely track shooting info, being rather preoccupied with the scenery and keeping the camera dry.

Annisquam Light. (Not the lighthouse I climbed — there are a lot of lighthouses in these parts.)

Thacher Island itself, with the two lighthouses. The one I went up is the more inland one.

Red algae never gets old...great EIR! I've also tried the EIR look with Sigma and Olympus digitals, and enjoy seeing new techniques to produce this effect. There's a local 1840 lighthouse by lake, that I've climbed more than a few times, and know how hot those tiny spaces can get in the summer months.

Thanks all! I like the seaweed too, Gary. (There is algae on the posts and seaweed on the shoreline. Most of it is seaweed here.) The biggest problem I had photographically was removing the window reflections from the lighthouse windows. I finally used the Independent Component program to separate the reflections from the background and then subtracted them off in Photoshop.

Fantastic series ! Very creative.

A Long Way Down is my pick. I also like A Bird Watching a Bird Watching....

I think I recognize that boathouse !!

Do the EIR colors look perfectly normal to everyone else like they do to me or are we all just EIR bonkers?? I love that deep blue.
