Verticordia monadelpha var. callitricha was first gathered from an unspecified location in south-western Western Australia during 1850 – 51 by James Drummond. The species name is from the Greek monos (alone) and adelphos (brother, by analogy to the stamens as the male organs of the flower) while the varietal name is from the Greek callos (beauty) and thrix (hair, in reference to the intricately divided sepals). It has been successfully grafted onto Darwinia citriodora rootstock.
