Galaxy 35mm, Kuribayashi clone on eBay

Recommended Posts

Here is a Galaxy 35mm f/3.5 lens being sold on eBay. I remember some testing comparing this lens with the Kuribayashi 35mm f/3.5.

This is a clone of the Kuri 35, it is designed and built the same as the Kuri. I have not directly compared the Galaxy version with the Kuri myself,

but this might be a lens that would work very good for UV transmission. The seller may know more.

I have a galaxy, that if I remember correctly, looks like this one.

The rear of the lens is the correct one with a rear lens locking ring without holes.

I got inspired this spring by Enricos web pages about the 35/3.5 variants he had tried.

I bought several (=5?) more or less worn Soligor, Prinz Galaxy and Galaxy lenses.

Most of them showed a similar transmission in pinhole tests comparable to my Cassasr-S 50mm.

The only one with less transmission was a PrinzGalaxy with a different rear lens locking ring. This ring was wider and had two lens spanner holes.

The Galaxy brand is more likely to show up at eBay.co.uk as UK was the main market.

I may have the Galaxy and PrinzGalaxy confused. I think it was the PrinzGalaxy that I had seen tested before as being quite close in transmission with the Kuri.

My apologizes for any confusion.

i think there has been several versions with names containing Prinz.

The one I have with nice transmission was marked PRINZ GALAXY:

The one with worse transmission was marked PRINZGALAXY:

The Soligor branded ones include lenses with serial numbers beginning with KA and 70.

They have good transmissions looks similar to the PRINZ GALAXY above.
