enricosavazzi
SAFETY WARNING: UV-C is dangerous to your eyes and your skin. UVP DOES NOT SUPPORT USING UV-C ILLUMINATION. [UV SAFETY] UV-C Light Dangers After careful preparation and protection, I took a spectrum (topmost) of a 13 W UVC (germicidal) lamp. By far the strongest peak is at 253.7 nm, well outside the range we can image with our converted cameras. I added the spectrum of a "blacklight" tube (bottom) as comparison. Most of the other Hg emission lines are the same in the two lamps, but the 365 nm line is the strongest in the blacklight lamp. My UVA+UVB meter reads almost nothing with the UVC lamp. Don't do this at home (or in the lab), unless you take precautions to completely encase the lamp and prevent any stray radiation. Preferably also wear face, body and hands protection, just to be safe. Even then, these UVC lamps produce terrific amounts of ozone, so operate them for the shortest practical time and in a well ventilated environment. Link to comment
