Wildflower

Synonyms:

  • Indian Mallow
  • Superstition Mallow
  • Palmer's Indian Mallow

Comment:

This beautiful Mallow has a classic central UV-dark area made up of a dark blotch at the petal base together with UV-dark filaments, open anthers, pollen and styles. The unopened anther is more UV-reflective and shows a bit of iridescence.

The A. palmeri is distinguised from the other Abuliton growing in Organ Pipe by its 9-10 styles.

Oooh! Yes, is is a flower that is much prettier in UV than it is in visible light, to my eyes, anyway!

I'm always tempted to push that pale yellow to a stronger saturation. After all, it's false color! But I kept my foot off the accelerator this time.
