Australian Native Wildflower as Garden Specimen

Correa backhouseana var. orbicularis is endemic to Kangaroo Island, South Australia where the type specimen was collected at Mount Thisby in 1965.

These Correa look very "fuzzy" - even on the petals. Very interesting plant.

 

I'm guessing these Correa (here and your other photos) are bird polliinated??

Tubular, stick out or hanging, red & yellow.

Correas are the main flowers around at the moment going into our winter. They are well known as magnets for birds, especially honeyeaters (which don't eat honey of course, they sip nectar) and most seem to have very hairy leaves. Correas are popular garden plants with many named cultivars and they hybridise easily in the wild as well.
