Alex H
I almost forgot about this shot from my trip to Florida. Unfortunately, the shots do not match perfectly so I can not do "lizard vision" composite ;) Link to comment
OlDoinyo
Cute things--we get them in certain valleys in these parts as well. Some are vivid green. Link to comment
Andrea B.
Well look at that!! The lizard has a UV-bright area under the throat!Given that these reptiles seem to need their UV light, I'm not surprised about the UV-absorbing back. Alex, no details for the foto. So I do hope I am correct in assuming the 2nd foto is indeed UV? ;) Link to comment
Alex H
Yes, Andrea, the bottom is UV photo. Link to comment
Bill De Jager
Well look at that!! The lizard has a UV-bright area under the throat! Hmmm.... makes me wonder about the western fence lizard and related species in the western U.S. They have blue patches under the throat and belly, and they are commonly called the blue-belly lizard. The males flash these at rival males, doing repeated push-ups in a prominent location such as a log or rock. As far as I know this flashing behavior has always been assumed to be a visible-light phenomenon, but now I wonder.... I'm working long hours now, but maybe over Memorial Day weekend I could spend some time on this. Link to comment
