What happens when you dry a Sunflower is that...

......all the petals curl up and fall off.

 

We had talked somewhere about trying to save a dried flower as a test flower for UV. This sunflower specimen was not completely dried, but I saw where it was going --> to the Land of No Petals. So I decided to shoot it anyway and see if the dark blotch was still present on the remaining petals. Yes, it is.

 

Perhaps if you saved a petal with a proper pressing/drying technique it could be used as a permanent test petal?? But I think I'm just gonna buy grocery store sunflowers whenever I need an indoor test specimen. They're cheerful and enjoyable while they last. And make nice compost for the garden when they are finished.

The sunflower becomes dull as it dries out.
