Comment:

A lowland hybrid carnivorous Pitcher Plant (Nepenthes x hookeriana) in visible light, UVR and UVF. Note the different patterning on the interior of the pitcher.

More research needed as to how the plant attracts its insect prey. (?both UV and fluorescence in moonlight?)

Technical specs:

UVR: 105mm El Nikkor Lens, Full spectrum converted Nikon D300 camera, Baader U filter ("white balanced" using DIY PTFE scale), 2 x Metz 45 CT1 flashes with plastic window removed.

UVF: Nikon D800 with 105mm micro-Nikkor. Conoy LED UV torch. 20 seconds @ f/16

Yes, insects are probably attracted primarily by the nectar, but also there is evidence that the fluorescence of the rim also helps (probably in moonlight).

Yes Andy, the other pitcher plants were mine. I have been photographing them a lot over the last couple of years.
