Valley of Fires

Last year in Valley of Fires, New Mexico. Asahi Spectra XRR0340, so most of the UV is 340-360 nm.

The rough rock surface is a (geologically speaking) recent basalt flow, only 5,000 years old and not yet worn out.

Last year in Valley of Fires, New Mexico.

This was shot in the same area as the UV landscape I posted separately.

The diagonal borderline between light and dark ground areas marks a geological difference: dark is a basalt flow, light is a spur of sedimentary rock elevated above the valley floor, which could not be covered by the lava flow. A dust devil can be seen at top right. The dark round object hovering in the sky in the general direction of Roswell is sensor dust (I think).
