Andrea B.
Blum, A.G. (2013) Lepidium draba L. (Brassicaceae) Whitetop. Flowers photographed in visible and ultraviolet light. http://www.ultraviol...draba-whitetop/ Durango, La Plata County, Colorado, USA 03 May 2013 Wildflower Synonyms: Cardaria draba (L.) Desvaux Hoary Cress Comment: A particularly invasive weed, L. draba easily invades grassy, disturbed areas and takes over as it did here on a poorly maintained plot in a shopping area. It has an intricate, typically brassica-like little flower with the six stamens, stigma and four sepals forming an interesting center geometry accented by the 4 white spreading petals. In UV there is some patchy reflectivity on the bud tips and petals. On the inner base of the sepals, petals and filaments there are UV-white markings. The remaining portions of the filaments are UV-dark. Reference: 1. Weber & Wittmann (2012) Cardaria Desvaux, page 126. Colorado Flora: Western Slope, 4th Ed. The U. of Colo. Press, Boulder, CO.
