It has become introduced to the Nordic countries and elsewhere. This is a species of dry meadows and open vegetation cover, often on calcareous soils in upland and mountainous areas. Flowering occurs quite early compared to other European members of the huge Senecio genus, often in May or early June on its alpine sites. Material was studied in Durmitor National Park, Montenegro, at an elevation around 1700 m.a.s.l., 20 June 2014.
