Wildflower

Synonyms:

  • Oldfield Cinquefoil
  • Spreading Cinquefoil
  • Potentilla simplex var. argyrisma
  • Potentilla simplex var. calvescens
  • Potentilla simplex var. typica

Comment:

The sprawling P. simplex has 5 leaflets in its palmate leaf, so lives up to the Cinquefoil name. P. simplex grows only a little taller than the similar Dwarf Cinquefoil, but it is distinguished from P. canadensis by having slightly longer leaves which are toothed along two-thirds of their edge as opposed to only one-half of the P. canadensis leaf length.

The UV photos in this entry are not of the highest quality. However they will serve until later replacement to illustrate the UV-dark petals with brighter edges that are characteristic of this flower's UV signature.
