Flowers photographed in ultraviolet and visible light. http://www.ultraviol...ras-sneezeweed/ Middletown, New Jersey, USA 28 July 2013 Cultivar in home garden Synonyms: Helen's Flower Comment: Bob Brown of Cotswold Garden Flowers in the UK found this Helenium in 1996 growing as an unknown cross at a commercial seed company. Petals and leaves of the Heleniums were dried for snuff, hence the common name Sneezeweed. Attracts butterflies. In UV the disk florets are dark with bits of bright pollen while the ray florets are moderately UV-reflective. The rays have some iridescence seen here at their proximal end. Reference: 1.
