Pers. DE: SchwalbenwurzEN: Swallow-wort, Swallowwort An herbaceous plant native to Europe that is found on calcareous soils. The plant contains toxic glycosides.Flowers were photographed near Bensheim, Germany 8 June 2013 (UV reflexion) and 11 June 2013 (fluorescence).UV- images were taken with a broadband-modified Panasonic Lumix G1 and the EL-Nikkor 80mm/f5.6 at f8. Visible light image with IR-neutralisation-filter ND (Optic Makario), ISO 100image reference: NCH_P1090067_130608 UV-image, Baader U-filter 2”, ISO 400, sunlight:image reference: NCH_P1090068_130608 UV-induced fluorescence, Lumix GH2 with Baader UV/IR cut filter:image reference: NCH_P1180905_130611 The flowers show only a medium UV-reflexion. In contrast to the “bulls eye” pattern of many other species with a UV-dark centre, V. hirundinaria has petals with UV-dark tips while the centre of the flower is more UV reflective. The induced fluorescence is also strongest/brightest in the centre. Andrea B.
What an interesting UV-signature !And I always enjoy seeing the European flowers which don't grow here. Link to comment
nfoto
There are at least two races of V. hirundararia. One with white another with yellow-green flowers. I might have secured a few shots of the latter race, but they aren't properly processed yet. I photographed the white kind in Austria but alas no UV at the time. Link to comment
