KuntzeOther Common Names:Burn Jelly PlantBalsemkopiva (Africaans)Katstert (Africaans)Snake FlowerComment: This succulent plant, native to the South African grasslands, has many medicinal uses. The leaf sap is useful for burns, stings and other skin irritations. The visible petal stripe is UV-absorbing and so looks dark against the UV-bright petals. The center plumes, stamens and style are UV-black with brighter anthers. The petals appear quite textured and lightly iridescent in UV indicating numerous conical cells. Reference:1.
