It flowers in early to late summer and usually is an annual, so introduced plants rarely become persistent. Specimens photographed in the Botanical Garden of University of Oslo, Norway 21 June 2010. From wildflower material. Image reference: TAGE_TEN_I1006211443_VIS.jpgVisible light: Nikon D3S, Medical-Nikkor 120 mm f/4 lens, built-in ring flash. Image reference: TAGE_TEN_I1006210778_UV.jpgUltraviolet light: Nikon D40X, UV-Nikkor 105 mm f/4.5 lens, Baader U2" (Venus) filter, SB-140 flash. The UV signature of T. tenuifolia features large darker basal patches on the ligulate florets set against a medium UV-reflective surface. However, epidermal cell structures can give rise to extensive iridescence. The dark blotches are rich in conical cells and probably enhances the external appearance of the capitulum.
