OlDoinyo
Pictures obtained with the Sony A900 at ISO 100 and f/16, Baader U2 filter; display intent BGR. First image with Steinheil Cassar-S: Herein we see the upper Lake Creek valley on the east side of Independence Pass, as seen from the third switchback (3,609m elevation.) La Plata Peak, elevation 4,370 meters, dominates the left skyline and is the fifth highest peak in Colorado. The atmosphere was smoky from distant forest fires, which accentuated the aerial perspective. Despite this, the UV image clearly picks out a remnant slush-patch high on the north flank of the peak. I notice a similar patch in a picture from the Alps posted by another member. Such slush-patches are less apparent in visible or IR images. Next, through the Asahi 35: The long ridge of Ragged Peak (3,655 meters) is seen here from state highway 133. Some slight artifacting in the sky area is due to strange behavior intermittently exhibited by the Sony raw-conversion software. Link to comment
Andy Perrin
Love that second one. You did get quite a bit of dichroic ringing from the filter, though. Link to comment
nfoto
These distant mountain scapes are surprisingly sharp considered they are captured in UV. Maybe the air was very clean and cool with little dust? Link to comment
