Wildflower in botanical garden

  • Orthocarpus purpurascens Benth. var. palmeri A. Gray

Comment:

This California native of the genus Castilleja was formerly placed in Scrophulariaceae. Jepson (1) has moved Castilleja to Orobanchceae.

It is quite colourful in Visible light, but uniformly UV-dark although the hairs are brighter.

Hemiparasite.
