Thought i would try out the D800 UV-VIS-IR with the 17-35/2.8D and RG1000 combo

 

Not the best cloud day...

Bob, Great shots! I am trying to see the difference between the top shot and the bottom shot, seems like there is some, what is your assessment?

Steve the foreground leaves in the top left corner in the last image are not the same in the first image.....;-)

both are pretty close.. up to some post processing differences.. i guess the 17-35/2.8D works pretty well

My curiosity is this: Typically the RG1000 gives us those very dark, almost black skies. So I'm assuming that your conversion has lightened them somewhat?

 

The angle of the tree trunk/branches in #1 and #3 is very cool.

Andrea, that far in the infrared the Bayer is transparent anyway, so I don’t see how Bob’s conversion can affect the sky lightness. I think it is just clouds.

Yes, I think you're right. I didn't realize at first that the first & third frames also had the clouds as in the 2nd frame. :rolleyes:

 

I always love how IR leaves & branches look against IR sky. It makes a kind of lacy pattern. Or maybe an almost fractal pattern.

Bob is using RG1000 1mm thick.

I had the RG1000 and RG830 pics reversed in my mind, they make more sense to me now that I know the top one is RG1000 1mm and the last one is RG830.

Water, sky seem to be slightly darker with the RG1000 1mm than the RG830, but I don't know the thickness of the RG830.

Definitely you are correct, RG1000 2mm will make for darker black skies and water than RG8730/RG850 do. RG850 2mm is my personal choice.

 

Keep in mind, the Schott data for all these ends at 1E-05 for 3mm thick, so thinner versions still suppress beyond the flat lines shown, but there is no deeper data provided to show that or calculate from.

it was pretty cloudy yesterday (the day i took these above) check the RG-1000 from today in the next thread
