An ancient domesticated fruit tree, P. communis is native to Europe and southwest Asia. Although most pear trees are cultivated, wild pears are not uncommon and in the Nordic countries tend to occur in lowland deciduous forests.

 

Specimen collected and photographed near Oslo, Norway 15 Apr 2007 from a wild form.
