Comment:

It's easy to overlook the beautiful structure of the very small, individual florets on the flower spike. At the base of each petal is a small UV-dark blotch giving the floret a tiny bulls-eye. In visible light, the petals show a dark orange X. Plantago seeds from various species are used as a dietary fiber and in Native American medicine.
