Hello Everyone,

My name is Erden Sizgek; I live in Sydney, Australia. I have been regularly following this, the best documentary & teaching UV photography site over a few years but particularly in the last eighteen months with enthusiasm and admiration. Thanks to the founders and the contributors.

I have been involved in photography since my teenager years when I used to develop B&W and slide film and print in B&W in my makeshift darkroom. Over the university years and during my carrier I took every opportunity to involve photography in my professional work; including optical microscopy, SEM&TEM photography, photographing high temperature (up to 1500˚C) industrial environments, combustion photography (over 2000˚C), stroboscopic photography of moving objects. Being a member of Australian Native Plants Society and The Society for Insect Studies, I also enjoy taking macro photographs of Australian native flowers and insects as well as photographing wildlife e.g., the birds and the lizards of unique and magnificent Australian continent.

I use Nikon equipment. Over the years I acquired quite number of bits and pieces, e.g., adaptors, converters, bellows (Nikon and Canon), extension rings, helicoids, filter holders, microscope objectives; İncluding building a computer controlled 1.6m long image stacking rail and a micro photography rig with microscope stages. I recently obtained some equipment for IR and UV photography by purchasing a fully converted Nikon D3200 body, various IR filters, a MTE 303 UV torch, a pair of UV safety goggles, a pair of Baader U-Venus-Filter 2" (2458291) and Baader UV/IR Cut / L-Filter 2" (2459210A). I also converted my very old Canon 199A flash for UV. Several years ago, I rescued a disposal bin destined Hanovia model 16 far UV light source, a museum piece, imagining that I will get into UV photography one day in future. Right now, I am in the planning of building a black box for UVIFL capability. At this stage, I intend carrying out UV photography study using the following enlarger lenses I have:

Nikon EL 50mm f4 metal body
Nikon EL 50mm f2:8 metal body
Nikon EL 80mm f5.6 N (new plastic body)
Nikon EL 150mm f5.6 metal body
Meyer – Optik Gorlitz Orestegor 4/200

Software wise, I have Nikon Capture NX2, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Elements, DNG Profile Editor, Photoshop-6 and recently downloaded Photo Ninja.

Literature wise, I compiled a very comprehensive digital library/database on nearly every aspect of photography & cinematography in addition to some information on optics and as far as lens design & imaging technologies. I also compiled comprehensive bookmarks for WEB sources.

Following my very recent decision of retreating from full time professional carrier, I would like to devote the time, which I could never spared enough of it due to very hectic years in the past, for the activities involving nature and photography; as well as self-teaching & research on historical linguistics.

My main driving force is in the context of documentary photography and I seek learning and mastering skills in various aspects of advanced techniques. I took these techniques on board as small projects with the objective of producing valuable photographic documentary information and publishing them in the publications of the societies I am associated with; as well as sharing the photographical and any technical outcomes in this site.

Light source: Bright sun light
Filter: Baader Planetarium, Venus, 2"
Magnification: 1:1

Taraxacum officinale common dandelion, native to Asia and Europe. Yellow colour has been false colour added to ultraviolet reflecting petals during image processing to simulate the yellow color of the flower.

Hello, welcome! Nice dandelion, which I sometimes think should be this board's mascot flower.

You might want to get the 80mm EL-Nikkor 5.6 with the metal version because it is significantly better than the plastic (or so I've heard).

Hello Erden and welcome to UVP!! We hope you continue to enjoy the site and we look forward to the addition your own floral UV-signatures to our botanical library. Formatting instructions for that are in the Guidelines section or are easily emulated by viewing any entry there.

Retirement will be wonderful because you will be free to pursue your interests wherever they may lead you! It appears as though you are quite well set up to pursue UV photography.

I was searching for metal construction Nikkor-EL lenses for a while Andy. I could obtain only metal versions of 50mm 2.8 and 150mm 5.6 lenses which were produced as a set. Over the last few days I carried out some magnification measurements with the lenses I have. Luckily Nikon has published the engineering drawings of these EL lenses. Measurements can be confirmed with the calculations based on these dimensions. I just shared the data in Flickr https://www.flickr.c...os/erdensizgek/ assuming that somebody else may also find such information useful.

Indeed Australian continent deserves its own chapter Bjørn. Because of its millions years long geographical isolation along with its geological and climate history, the continent is really unique. Apart from its plants and animals, dozens of languages spoken by various native tribes also offers human speech vocalization & phonemes echoing from at least 50,000 years past.

I am aiming to comply with the standard image processing workflow you promote Andrea. Though, I do not feel fully competent on colour aspects of digital image processing. Any feedback, particularly technical, on the images I upload will be very much appreciated.

We are always happy to help with such things. Only the botanical section requires standardized processing. Elsewhere you may post images processed however you like. "-)

I am not familiar with the Hanovia model 16, does it look like this?

Sorry for missing your post John. Yes it is exactly the same lamp. After purchasing the converted D3200 body, I gradually accuired the other parts and bits.
