Oh that’s funny, so the Heisenberg uncertainty principle is actually dangerous in this case! I doubt that it would affect our setups, though, because none of us have flashes that are in the femptosecond range. Or anything remotely close.

I agree that it's not an issue for UV photography, unless you plan to use femtosecond UV laser pulses as illumination.

 

I happened to see a presentation by the mentioned Hood College collaborator at an American Chemical Society meeting a couple years ago. The scariest thing in the talk was the remark that every single pair of plastic lenses tested failed to protect against femtosecond laser pulses. Some of the glass lenses were OK.
