JCDowdy
There is a rumor that Nikon is coming out with a variant of the D810 specialized for astrophotography. Here a couple of links for more info on Nikon Rumors and PetaPixel. The Hα line is ~656.3 nm so this may not be a full UV/Vis/NIR spectrum camera. Should be interesting to see what this will be. Shane
I am still waiting for the last Nikon rumor to come true - firmware upgrade to provide RAW histogram on the D800/E, D810, D750 and D610. So I will not be holding my breath. Link to comment
Shane
Well the D810A (Astrophotography, spectral range extended for H alpha) - is officially announced. The earlier Canon versions never really performed as well as aftermarket conversions so we have to wait and see. One interesting firmware feature "Virtual Live View Exposure Preview feature for greater focusing and compositional accuracy when making long exposures". As this appears to be a firmware modification perhaps it will trickle down to the D810. Link to comment
Andrea B.
That new Live View feature could be very interesting. It might make the D810a a potentially good model for modding too. Although it would be somewhat silly I suppose to purchase a body with an astro-filter and then promptly remove it. "-) Link to comment
