The shaft of the tower is evidently painted with titanium dioxide paint; it appears pale to the eye. The darkening enhances the contrast with the pale sky. I am not sure I like the skyscraper at lower left, but this was taken from the top of a tour bus paused in traffic, and I had no real choice of vantage point. The rest of my UV frames from this sequence were worthless.

The cruciform reflection from the dome is a curious geometric echo of the cross on the steeple at left. When the tower was built, by the then-officially-atheist DDR regime, the reflection was something of an embarrassment and became the butt of jokes, being dubbed "the Pope's Revenge."
